BHS Students recognized at Beverly Public Library's 15th Annual Teen Poetry Contest

Beverly High School student, Anita Richardson, received the First Place (Alec J. Nelson Award)for her poem, “Upon a Strange Encounter” at the 15th Annual Teen Poetry Contest sponsored by the Beverly Public Library. BHS student, Laura Koch, received honorable mention for her poem, Dancing With Death", and BHS student,Alex Groblewski, received third prize for “Roadkill Haiku”. A total of 26 poems were read aloud by poets and judges at the Poetry Contest Reception held on the night of Monday, April 25th. Beverly High School Local Scholarships

THE BEVERLY HIGH SCHOOL LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP LISTS AND APPLICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR BEVERLY HIGH SENIORS IN THE HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT. ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE ADDED ON A WEEKLY BASIS. IT IS ALSO AVAILABLE ON WWW.BHSONLINE.ORG WEBSITE. THE LINK CAN BE FOUND BY ACCESSING GUIDANCE AND THEN FINANCIAL AID. UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED, ALL SCHOLARSHIPS MUST BE RETURNED TO MRS. BELLEAU IN GUIDANCE NO LATER THAN APRIL 28. THE SPECIAL LIST REQUIRES SEPARATE APPLICATIONS AND DIFFERENT DEADLINE DATES WHICH CAN BE FOUND IN THE GUIDANCE OFFICE.

A Conversation on the Joys and Challenges of Raising Grandchildren
Thursday, May 5, 2011 - 10a.m. –11:30a.m.
Senior Community Center, 90 Colon Street, Beverly

If you are a grandparent actively parenting a grandchild (ren) why not join us to discuss the joys and challenges of this special relationship and role? The conversation will be led by Jaclyn Stanko, LICSW and Liz Bristow, MA from the Center for Family Development who hope to generate enough interest to form a group for grandparents who are parenting or who are caregivers of their grandchildren. Refreshments will be served.

To register, call the Senior Center at 978-921-6017 by May 3, 2011. Please note: If you are interested in participating in a grandparents group, but cannot attend the meeting on May 5th, please call the above number to put your name on our contact list.
Possible topics for group discussion include:
-community resources and support
-the change in the grandparent-grandchild relationship when you are a parent
-helping children deal with the change in roles
-setting appropriate behavioral expectations for your grandchildren
-generational differences in child rearing
-effective ways of addressing grandchildren’s needs at school

Key Club charity drives

Key Club is holding a food drive for Beverly Bootstraps until the end of
March. Boxes are located in front of the main office and next to the
music room. Please bring your non perishable items!

Key Club members collected $151 for Change for Heat, a program that helps
low income families pay their heating bills.
